I like to serve this with some garlic bread and a dinner salad, but it is definitely hearty enough to be served on its own. I also like to add different veggies in sometimes too. Broccoli and zucchini and red bell peppers are my favorite ones to use.

  • 1 lb Ground Beef Ground turkey, chicken or pork will also work
  • 12 oz Linguine Pasta Spaghetti or Fettuccine also work great
  • 2 cups Pasta Water, reserved from cooking the pasta in
  • 4-5 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp Ginger Paste or 1 teaspoon dried ginger
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 pinch Red pepper flakes optional, use only for a slight hint of spice
  • 3 tbsp Hoisin Sauce I have never used anything for a substitute but a quick google search says BBQ is good as a substitute
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp Cold Water
  • 2-3 Green Onions, sliced optional as garnish
  • 1-2 tsp Sesame Seeds optional as garnish

Instructions

  • Start cooking your pasta in some salted boiling water. Cook to al dente according to the directions on the package. Reserve 2 cups of the water before draining them.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the minced garlic. Drain excess grease if needed.
  • Stir in the ginger, soy sauce, brown sugar, red pepper flakes, hoisin sauce and black pepper.
  • Mix the water and cornstarch together. Stir it into the meat and allow it to simmer for a couple of minutes to thicken up.
  • Stir in 1 cup of the pasta water and the cooked and drained pasta. Stir really well until everything is incorporated and the sauce sticks to the pasta. (Last time I made this I ended up using another 1/2 cup of the pasta water. It will depend on how thick you want it to be.)

This was delicious! I ended up adding white onion as well as the green onions, carrot shreds, cabbage and I made an extra batch of sauce on the side just because it absorbed into everything so quickly. Would definitely make this again!

    1. This is so weird. After reading the recipe, I thought it needed some veggies. I thought of quickly sautéing onions cabbage and carrots til tender crisp to add to it. Were they good choices? Would you replace or add anything else? Great minds think alike! Lol

YUM! This was wonderful. I used golden monkfruit brown sugar substitute instead of brown sugar, added about 1/2 bag of coleslaw shreds, and about 1/2 bag of riced cauliflower. SO easy and tastes bad for you, even though it’s healthy! ? A great lower carb substitute for Chinese takeout. Thanks!

You can use soy sauce and a little creamy peanut butter and tiny bit of honey for hoisin sauce substitute. ? and try adding a 1/2 cup or so of frozen sweet peas to this recipe – yummy!
