What Are Big Mac Smash Tacos?
Big Mac Smash Tacos take everything you love about a classic Big Mac — beef, cheese, pickles, lettuce, special sauce — and smash it all into a crispy, cheesy taco. Instead of a hamburger bun, you press the seasoned ground beef directly onto a tortilla, cook it meat-side down, and finish it off with melty cheese and toppings.
The best part? They’re handheld, easy to eat, and packed with that nostalgic fast-food flavor we all secretly crave.

Why You’ll Love These Smash Tacos
- Quick and easy — Ready in about 30 minutes or less
- Perfect for camping — Great on an outdoor griddle
- Minimal ingredients — Mostly pantry and fridge staples
- Customizable — Stick to classic Big Mac toppings or mix it up!
- Fun to make — Smashing the beef onto the tortillas is surprisingly satisfying
Ingredients You’ll Need
- 1 lb (16 oz) ground beef (divided into 8 equal portions)
- 8 fajita-size flour tortillas (smaller size works best)
- Salt and pepper, to season
- 8 slices of Kraft American cheese (or any melty cheese you love)
- Shredded iceberg lettuce
- Dill pickle slices (or any pickles you prefer)
- Small amount of oil (for the skillet or griddle)
For the Big Mac-style sauce:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons dill relish
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper

How to Make Big Mac Smash Tacos

This is just a summary, the full recipe is below. First, in a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, dill relish, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
Set the sauce aside or refrigerate it if you’re prepping ahead (it gets even better as it chills!).

Next, divide the ground beef into 8 equal portions — 2 ounces each.
Lay out your tortillas on a clean surface.
Using your hands (like I did), press and smash a portion of beef directly onto the center of each tortilla.
You want the beef to cover the surface of the tortilla all the way to the edges.
Tip: If you prefer, you can use a piece of parchment paper and a flat-bottomed cup or spatula to help press the beef thin and even.
Lightly season the beef side with salt and pepper.

Heat a small amount of oil in a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Working in batches, place the tortillas meat-side down into the hot pan.
Cook for 3–5 minutes until the beef is fully cooked through and has a nice caramelized sear.
Flip the tacos carefully and cook the tortilla side for about 1 more minute to get it crispy. Once you flip the tacos and the tortilla crisps up, place a slice of American cheese on the beef side.
Let the cheese melt slightly while the tortilla finishes crisping.
Important: Because the beef is pressed very thin, it cooks through quickly — no pink left!

Notes
Tips for Success
- Stick with smaller tortillas: Fajita size is perfect for handling and smashing.
- Smash thin: The thinner the beef, the faster and more evenly it cooks.
- Use American cheese: Kraft singles melt the best, giving you that authentic Big Mac vibe.
- Make the sauce ahead: It tastes even better after chilling a bit!
- Eat fresh: These tacos are best hot and crispy, but if needed, you can reheat them gently on a skillet.
