About What's Mom Cookin'

Hi, I am Carman Wilken, aka whatsmomcookin. I am a self-taught home chef. I have had a passion for cooking since I was old enough to stand on a chair beside my grandma or my mom and help stir whatever dish was being made. Everything we did as a family revolved around food! I can still remember the smell of my grandparent’s house on holidays. It was like heaven, and I will never forget it. I also grew up in a home where dinner was always served and eaten at the table. Those are also some of the best memories I have. When I had children of my own, I passed that tradition on to them as well. Even if we were just having cereal for dinner, I made it a point for all of us to sit down together and eat and talk about our day. My kids are all grown now, but still love coming home for dinner and we still eat together at the table.

Cooking is my love language. I love throwing parties and cooking for large groups, in addition to cooking for my family. I started making TikTok videos a little over a year ago just for fun. I unexpectedly grew quite a large following in a short time. I was miserable at my full-time corporate job and just recently decided to start this food blog and expand my love of cooking to other platforms as well (Facebook and Instagram and eventually Pinterest and maybe Youtube down the road.) My loving and supportive husband believes in me enough that he allowed me to quit my job to pursue this as a full-time career. And even though I am terrified (change is scary to me), I am going to put everything I have into bringing you quality content and recipes! I am so glad you are here and are on this journey with me! Welcome to my kitchen, let’s eat!

Mission

I am here to share easy, budget-friendly, and delicious recipes! I try to use ingredients and cooking methods that most households have access to. I want to encourage people who may not feel comfortable in the kitchen to just get in there and try! A recipe doesn’t have to be intimidating or difficult or have an ingredient list a mile long to be good! And cooking does not come with a set of rules! I want people to have fun, try new things, and enjoy dinners with their families.
