What is Puff Pastry?
Before diving into the recipe, let’s talk about puff pastry. Puff pastry is a light, flaky pastry made from layers of dough and butter. The dough is rolled out, folded, and rolled again multiple times to create many thin layers. When baked, the moisture in the butter creates steam, causing the layers to puff up and separate, resulting in a wonderfully airy and crispy texture. This makes it perfect for both savory and sweet dishes, providing a rich, buttery flavor that enhances any filling or topping.

Ingredients:
- Cream Cheese: 4 ounces of softened cream cheese creates a rich base for the filling.
- Swiss Cheese: 7 ounces of shredded Swiss cheese adds a nice melty texture and nutty flavor.
- Spinach: One cup of thawed and drained frozen spinach (from a 10-ounce package) brings a vibrant green color and nutritional boost.
- Parmesan Cheese: 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan adds a tangy depth of flavor.
- Artichoke Hearts: 6 ounces of chopped artichoke hearts provide a unique taste and texture that complements the spinach.
- Seasonings: A teaspoon of red pepper flakes, 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg enhance the overall flavor profile.
- 1 Sheet of Thawed Puff Pastry Dough
Directions:

In a large bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, shredded Swiss cheese, thawed spinach, grated Parmesan, chopped artichoke hearts, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until well combined.

Thaw one sheet of puff pastry dough according to package instructions. Once thawed, roll it out on a lightly floured surface to ensure it’s even. Spread the spinach and artichoke mixture evenly over the surface of the rolled-out puff pastry. Starting from the long edge, carefully roll the puff pastry into a tight log. Once rolled, use a sharp knife to cut the log into 12 equal slices.

Place the pinwheels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake them in a preheated oven at 400°F for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and puffed up.
