Sloppy Joes (Simple Recipe)

May 4, 2023

This recipe for Sloppy Joes is a no frills, very basic and simple recipe! It is one that I came up with when my children were younger because I had one very picky eater and this is one thing that he never turned down! So as you can imagine, it was on our dinner rotation quite a bit. Now that he is older, he will eat my “grown-up” version of Sloppy Joes, which is similar to this, but with a few additions. The reason I decided to post this recipe is that I see a lot of people on social media commenting about their picky eaters. So I decided to try and give this recipe as something for those people to try. And I honestly know several adults who are extremely picky and may also really benefit from this recipe!

And the best part is that it can be on the table in just around 15 minutes! Music to any busy parent’s ears!

How to make these super simple Sloppy Joes

If you did not believe me when I said these are extremely simple, well you will now!

Simply brown 2 lbs of ground beef (I made a big batch because my husband is a big eater, and this way he could have leftovers for his lunch). You can easily halve this recipe if needed!

Once the meat is cooked, drain off the excess grease. This is not necessary, just personal preference!

Mix in 1 cup of ketchup, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup of soy sauce and 1 tbs each of onion and garlic powder.

AND THAT IS IT!

Allow it to simmer on the stove for a few minutes while you toast up some buns. And dinner is done!

As I mentioned above, there is nothing fancy or complicated about this recipe. But if you have a picky eater, I hope that maybe this can be something you can add to your dinner rotation!

To make it really simple, I usually serve these with some frozen tater tots or french fries. They also pair well with pasta salad or mac and cheese!

It is also good as a topping for a baked potato!

Here are some other recipes that I find to be fairly kid friendly as well!

You mentioned a “grown up” version of this. Do you mind posting that recipe?
