Why is it called “Bubble Up” Pizza Bake?
It is called that because it is made with canned biscuits that “bubble up” during the baking process. One thing that I have changed about it over the years is that I now bake my biscuits first to ensure that they get thoroughly cooked. So they don’t bubble up as much but it takes less time and you can be sure that you won’t be biting into raw biscuit dough!
Ingredients:
Remember, this is a very customizable recipe, so the toppings can be whatever you want. I am just giving the ingredients I used for this particular recipe.
- 1 Can of Pillsbury Grands Homestyle Biscuits or any other brand and type of biscuits that you like
- 4 tbs of salted butter
- 1 tbs oregano or Italian Seasoning
- 1 tsp dried parsley flakes
- 5-6 minced garlic cloves
- 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 1 lb Italian Sausage
- 14 oz jar of pizza sauce
- 16 oz mozzarella cheese
- 6 oz package of pepperoni slices
How to Make Bubble Up Pizza Bake:
The first thing you will do is cut the biscuits into 9 equal-size pieces. Set those aside.
These are the biscuits I used but any brand or type will work.
Next, you will melt the butter in a bowl and add the oregano, parsley, minced garlic and the parmesan cheese and mix it up. Add in the cut up biscuits and mix really well. You may have trouble keeping the dough from sticking together. Using your fingers to separate them works great!
Layer the biscuits in a 9×13 baking dish and bake at 400 for about 12-15 minutes.
While those are baking, brown your Italian sausage, grate your cheese and get any other toppings ready that you plan to put on.
When your biscuits are done, top them with the pizza sauce, the Italian sausage and any other toppings you want. Then spread on the cheese and the pepperonis.
I like to eat this with a nice green salad on the side but the rest of my family just eats it alone. Either way, you can have a delicious, cost-friendly dinner on the table in no time at all!

Oh to be a Mom of my three back in the 80s again with the Internet and thus, Moms like you so willing to share your ideas in the kitchen!! I hope the young and older Moms realize what is at their fingertips!
In 1986 then I remember one particular birthday party for my THIRTEEN YEAR-OLD son that he and his friends standing around a square chopping block in my kitchen with each wearing a chef’s hat from the local Party Favors’ store! Of course they must have had aprons on as well, but I don’t really remember much except for the CHEF BOYARDEE PIZZA kit. The huge pizza they made on the FLOURY chopping block and hot oven was sooooo good! I don’t think I’d ever had one to tell you the truth!
You do realize MY three now are raising MY 6 grandkids!! Four are the perfect ages for this recipe of yours! The other two being boys will pass it on to their girlfriends’ moms! lol Great 2024 ‘pay-forward.’
Using the GRANDS was a great idea because they’re layered which fluff up. (I used a pizza stone recently and my store-bought pizza with the croissant crust fluffed.)
I can’t get over how simplified you make your creations! Keep it up because good ideas for good food is always a good thing!!

This was awesome! This was a quick and easy dinner and with it just being my wife and I, we will be able to freeze some of this for quick and easy meals for later on. I did make a few tweaks to it, though. I did use a 24 ounce jar of sauce only because we prefer more sauce on our “pizza”. I also cooked some Onions, Mushrooms, Ham and Bacon. I put those ingredients on top of the sauce and then covered it with both Mozzarella and Shredded Cheddar.
I will give one word of advice, be sure to use a DEEP pan if you add extra ingredients because the Grands tend to rise up pretty good.
This is highly recommended! If you have kids and you all enjoy pizza then you can’t go wrong with this recipe!
