Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Ready in about 30 minutes
- High-protein and filling
- Loaded with fresh, colorful vegetables
- Sweet and savory flavor balance
- Easy to customize with whatever you have on hand
- Great for meal prep and leftovers
- Lighter than takeout but just as satisfying
Ingredients
- Boneless skinless chicken breast (¾–1 pound) – Lean protein that keeps this stir fry filling and balanced. Cut into bite-size pieces so it cooks quickly and evenly.
- Smoked turkey sausage (13 ounces) – Adds bold, smoky flavor and richness without needing heavy sauces. Any smoked sausage will work here.
- Avocado oil (1 tablespoon) – Used for sautéing because it has a high smoke point and helps achieve that beautiful browning.
- Sweet Pepper Honey Chicken seasoning (about 1 tablespoon) – Gives the chicken a sweet, smoky flavor. You can substitute garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Green bell pepper (1, chopped) – Adds crunch and freshness.
- Red bell pepper (1, chopped) – Adds sweetness and vibrant color.
- ½ large red onion (chopped) – Brings a sharp bite and beautiful contrast. If using a small onion, use the whole thing.
- Zucchini (1 medium, sliced) – Bulks up the stir fry while keeping it light and vibrant.
- Broccoli florets (about 1 cup) – Adds fiber, texture, and that classic stir fry feel.
- Garlic (6–7 cloves, minced) – Fresh garlic makes a big difference in flavor. Don’t skip it.
- Salt and black pepper (about ½ teaspoon each, plus more to taste) – Enhances the natural flavors of the vegetables.
- Mandarin teriyaki sauce (2–3 tablespoons) – Just enough to coat and glaze everything without making it overly saucy.
How to Make Sweet & Savory Chicken and Smoked Sausage Teriyaki Stir Fry

Start by cutting your chicken breast into bite-size pieces. Drizzle lightly with olive oil and season generously with the Sweet Pepper Honey Chicken seasoning. Toss until evenly coated.

Slice the smoked turkey sausage into thick coins. Chop the bell peppers, red onion, zucchini, and broccoli into uniform pieces so everything cooks evenly. Mince the garlic and set it aside.

Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the sliced sausage in a single layer. Let it cook undisturbed so it develops a golden brown crust. Flip and cook until nicely caramelized, then remove and set aside.

In the same skillet, add the seasoned chicken. Spread the pieces out so they aren’t crowded. Let them cook without constantly stirring so they develop light browning. Cook until fully done, then remove and set aside with the sausage.

Without wiping out the pan, add the broccoli, bell peppers, and red onion. Season with salt and black pepper. Sauté for about five minutes, or longer if you prefer softer vegetables. I like mine slightly crisp for texture and color.

Add the sliced zucchini and minced garlic. Season lightly again if needed. Cook for about one minute, just until the garlic becomes fragrant and the zucchini begins to soften.

Return the sausage and chicken to the skillet. Reduce the heat slightly and add 2–3 tablespoons of mandarin teriyaki sauce. Toss everything together and let it cook for another minute or two until glossy and evenly coated.

Serve immediately over white rice, brown rice, cauliflower rice, or noodles. Or have it on its own for a low carb option!
Tips for Success
- Don’t overcrowd the pan. Cook in batches if needed so everything browns instead of steams.
- Let the sausage sit undisturbed so it develops a good crust.
- Add zucchini and garlic toward the end to prevent overcooking.
- Start with less teriyaki sauce — you can always add more.
- If it tastes slightly too sweet, add a small splash of soy sauce or a squeeze of lemon.

I saw this on Instagram yesterday and made it tonight! I left out the garlic and added udon noodles & mushrooms to mine. The only time consuming thing was chopping everything, but cooking was a breeze. I would recommend using a wok or a deep pan as this makes a lot of food. Perfect for leftovers!
Sometimes I think the chopping is a chore and other times I find it therapeutic! I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe! Thank you for leaving a review!
