I have said it many times before, and I am going to say it again. Potatoes are life! And if I had to choose only one food to eat for the rest of my life, yep you guessed it! Baked, mashed, boiled, fried, roasted, you name it. Just give me all of them! And now that you know about my love affair with spuds, let me show you how to prepare the Perfect Baked Potato in the air fryer!

What is the best type of potato to use?

Hands down, Russet potatoes, sometimes referred to as Idaho Potatoes, are the best option for baking! They are low in moisture and have a high starch content, which is what makes the skins crispy and the insides nice and fluffy! These are certainly the most commonly used. As with all recipes, though, there are no rules, and you can use any type of potato you want! Yukon golds would be my second option.

How is baking them in the air fryer different than using a conventional oven?

The main difference is the time it takes to make them. It reduces the time by about 20-30 minutes. That may not seem significant, but when you are in a hurry to get dinner done, that makes a huge difference! Secondly, the air fryer consistently cooks them evenly throughout. I find that sometimes in the oven, they will still be slightly hard in the middle. That’s never good! Third, the texture is just perfect! As I mentioned already. And lastly, when you use the air fryer, you do not have to heat up the kitchen, which is a big deal in the summer months!

How to make Perfect Air Fryer Baked Potatoes:

Wash and dry your potatoes. Then use a fork to poke holes all throughout. I like to make at least 3 pokes on each side for a total of 6.

Then you will brush them with olive oil and season them with a salt, pepper and garlic blend. You can also just use salt and pepper or no seasoning at all if you prefer.

Next you will put them in the air fryer at 400 degrees. Use the air fryer setting. Bake for approximately 40 minutes, flipping halfway through. They are done when you can easily pierce them with a fork.

Although there are endless ways to top them, my favorite is the classic butter and sour cream with some salt and pepper!

Cut a slit in them and kind of smush together in the middle to open them up. Fluff with a fork, then add the butter and lightly mix it in. Top with the sour cream and salt and pepper.

And if we are being honest, this is nowhere near the amount of sour cream I use lol! But I needed this to be picture worthy before I dove in!

Mmmmm, just look at that! Perfection!

If you make these, please leave a comment and a rating. I love hearing from you and it really does help! Thanks so much!
