Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joes

Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joes: A Family Favorite
When it comes to quick, delicious meals that the whole family can enjoy, nothing beats the classic combination of grilled cheese and sloppy Joe’s. This recipe is not just budget-friendly but also incredibly easy to whip up, making it perfect for those busy weeknights when time is of the essence. Plus, it’s a meal that resonates with nostalgia, bringing back fond memories of childhood favorites. Every time I prepare sloppy Joe’s, I can’t help but think of Adam Sandler’s iconic “Lunch Lady Land” skit on Saturday Night Live. It’s a humorous reminder of how food can connect us to joyful memories and fun moments in pop culture.
This grilled cheese sloppy Joe sandwich is not just a hit among adults; it’s incredibly child-friendly too! The combination of gooey melted cheese and the flavorful, messy filling makes it irresistible for little ones. Plus, with the Texas toast bread and a side of crispy French fries and dill pickles, it’s a complete meal that will satisfy even the pickiest eaters.
In addition to being quick and easy to prepare, this meal is also very budget-friendly. With simple ingredients that can be found at any grocery store, it’s a great way to feed the family without breaking the bank. Plus, leftovers (if there are any!) make for a fantastic next-day lunch.

Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ cup diced onions
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon of your favorite seasoning (like Kinder’s caramelized onion burger seasoning)
- 8 oz can of tomato sauce
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- Texas toast bread
- Hellmann’s mayonnaise
- Kraft American cheese
If you want to make this even EASIER, you can use a can of prepared sauce, such as Manwich!
Directions:

This is just a summary, the full recipe is below. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown 1 pound of ground beef with 1/2 cup of diced onions and 4 minced garlic cloves. (I usually add 1/4 cup of diced green peppers too, but I was out on this particular day.) Once the meat is cooked through, drain off the excess grease.

Stir in 1 tablespoon of tomato paste and your seasoning choice. Then add 8 oz of tomato sauce, ¼ cup ketchup, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, and 2 tablespoons brown sugar. Mix everything well and let it simmer for a few minutes to meld the flavors.

Spread Hellmann’s mayonnaise on one side of each slice of Texas toast. This is the secret to achieving that perfect crispy texture. In a nonstick skillet over medium heat, place the bread slices mayonnaise side down. Add a slice of Craft American cheese on each slice. Once the cheese starts to melt, add a heaping spoonful of the sloppy Joe mixture on one slice of bread, then flip it over to create a sandwich. Grill until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is fully melted.

Pair your grilled cheese sloppy Joe sandwiches with crispy French fries and dill pickles for a complete meal that will please both kids and adults alike.
