Snickers Caramel Apple Salad

Ingredients You Will Need:

  • 4 large Granny Smith apples – These tart apples are the unsung heroes of this salad. Their crispness and tangy flavor provide a perfect balance to the sweetness of the candies and the creamy pudding.
  • 20 miniature Snickers candy bars (or 6 full size bars) Chopped into bite-sized pieces for that chocolatey, caramel goodness.
  • 3.4 ounces of instant vanilla pudding – For that creamy texture. Be sure to use instant and not the cooking kind
  • 3/4 cup of whole milk – To mix with the pudding.
  • 8 ounces of thawed Cool Whip – Light and fluffy, it’s a must for this salad.
  • Caramel sauce – About a quarter cup, drizzled on top for the finishing touch.

Why Granny Smith Apples?

Using Granny Smith apples is crucial in this recipe. Their tartness cuts through the sweetness of the Snickers and the creamy pudding, creating a delightful balance that makes each bite a pleasure. Sweet apples might just make this salad a sugar overload, so stick with Granny Smith for the perfect contrast. If you do want to use a different variety, I suggest Honeycrisp.

How To Make It:

Start by chopping the Granny Smith apples into small, bite-sized pieces. Next, chop the miniature Snickers bars. Don’t forget to save about half a cup of each for garnishing later.

In a bowl, mix the instant vanilla pudding with the whole milk using a hand mixer until it’s nice and thick. This shouldn’t take long—just a few minutes to achieve that creamy consistency. Gently fold in the thawed Cool Whip to your pudding mixture until combined.

Now it’s time to mix in the chopped apples and Snickers bars.  cover it, and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least an hour. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.

Notes

One common dilemma when making apple salads is keeping the apples from browning. To avoid this, you can toss your chopped apples in a bit of lemon juice before adding them to the salad. The acidity of the lemon juice helps to slow down the oxidation process, keeping those apples looking fresh and appetizing.
You can make this up to one day ahead of time, just keep it tightly covered in the fridge until ready to serve.
