Smoked Sausage and Boursin Cheese Pasta

September 28, 2022

One thing I actually enjoy is challenging myself to get creative when the groceries are running low. I used to have a bad habit of thinking I constantly needed my fridge and pantry stocked at all times. This led to a lot of food waste though. So now I try to be as frugal as possible and come up with recipes that I may have never had before and use up what I have before making an unnecessary trip to the grocery store. This AMAZING dish just happened to be the result of that, and we loved it so much that I make it probably twice a month now! Smoked sausage is something that I always try to have on hand. It is packed with flavor and is so versatile. It can literally be put in SO many dishes. And don’t even get me started on the Garlic and Herb Boursin Cheese! (I am drooling just thinking about it!) This recipe is quite simple, extremely versatile and just downright delicious!

The first thing you want to do is get your pasta water boiling. I always like to salt it heavily and I always add a tbs of chicken flavored bouillon.

For this recipe, I used fettuccini, but any long pasta will work!

Then in a separate skillet, melt 2 tbs of butter and add in a 13 oz package of any flavor smoked sausage, sliced, and a diced onion.

Season however you like, but I just used a little salt and a lot of black pepper.

Cook until they are golden brown and crispy.

Add in one package of garlic and herb flavored Boursin cheese. and stir until it is melted.

Add a cup or so of grated parmesan cheese and stir until it is melted.

Add one cup of the pasta water and stir it up well. I could just start eating it like soup at this point!

Add in your cooked and drained pasta and stir together really well.

And now you have some creamy, delicious sausage and pasta!

This is a pretty hearty meal just by itself, but it would be good served with some garlic bread and some green veggies or a salad!

Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • (1) 16 oz box fettuccini
  • 1 tsp chicken bouillon
  • Salt and pepper
  • (1) 13 oz package of any flavor smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 yellow diced onion
  • 2 tbs butter
  • (1) 5.2 oz package of Garlic and Herb flavored Boursin Cheese
  • 1- 1.5 cups grated parmesan
  • 2-3 cups of reserved pasta water

Directions:

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add some salt and about 1 tsp of chicken flavored bouillon. Cook the fettuccini until al dente, and be sure to reserve at least 2 cups of the pasta water when it is close to being done. In a separate pan, melt 2 tbs of butter and add the sliced smoked sausage and the diced onion. Season with some salt and pepper. Cook until they are nice and browned. Add the boursin cheese and 2 cups of the pasta water and stir until melted, then add the parmesan cheese and stir until it is melted. Add in the cooked pasta and mix it up really well. If it is too thick, add a little more pasta water until you get it to your desired consistency.

  • Great Recipe! I tend to m9dify to meet my staples on hand. Minor change. I used the pre-cook pasta elbows. Added milk and corn starch instead of pasta water. Added a little extra milk at the end to keep creamy. Excellent!

How well does this recipe work for leftovers?!

        • A

I am so sorry for the late reply, I have been a bit under the weather and am playing catch up. In regard to leftovers, they are great! I recommend heating them up in the microwave and sometimes it is helpful to add a small bit of milk to make it as creamy as when it was fresh!

  • OMG this is amazing. So simple and so good! 10 out of 10.
