Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3–4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Mrs. Dash Original seasoning blend (or your favorite all-purpose seasoning)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon thyme
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 yellow potatoes, chopped
  • 1 (12–16 oz) bag frozen mixed vegetables, thawed slightly
  • 2 (10.5 oz) cans cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 box Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk (or water, see notes)
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing on top)
  • Seasoning packet from biscuit mix

 Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

This recipe is incredibly flexible! Use what you have on hand — that’s the beauty of it.

  • Meat: Substitute ground turkey, chicken, or even sausage for the beef.
  • Soup: Cream of chicken, celery, or even potato soup can work in place of mushroom.
  • Vegetables: Any frozen or canned mixed veggies will do — just drain canned ones first.
  • Biscuit Mix: Cheddar Bay biscuit mix adds great flavor, but any biscuit or baking mix can be used in a pinch.
  • Cheese: Use shredded Colby Jack, mozzarella, or even pepper jack for a flavor twist
  • Liquid: If you’re out of milk, water works fine for mixing the biscuits.
  • Seasoning: Swap Mrs. Dash for your favorite blend for a simple mix of garlic powder and onion powder.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Preheat the oven:
Set your oven to 425°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Cook the beef mixture:
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown 1 pound of ground beef with the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until the meat is fully browned and the onions are tender. Drain excess grease if needed.

3. Season it up:
Stir in Mrs. Dash, black pepper, thyme, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well so the beef is coated in all that flavor.

4. Add the potatoes and veggies:
Microwave the chopped potatoes for about 5 minutes to soften slightly. Add them to the skillet along with the thawed mixed vegetables. Stir to combine.

5. Make it creamy:
Add in the two cans of cream of mushroom soup and mix thoroughly until everything is evenly coated. Taste and adjust seasoning if desired — though it’s usually just right as-is!

6. Transfer to baking dish:
Spread the beef and vegetable mixture evenly into your prepared 9×13-inch dish.

7. Mix the biscuit topping:
In a medium bowl, combine the Cheddar Bay biscuit mix, grated cheddar, and milk. The dough should be slightly runnier than usual biscuit dough so it spreads easily.

Lastly

8. Top the casserole:
Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit batter over the meat mixture. Use a rubber spatula to gently spread it out — it doesn’t have to be perfect!

9. Bake:
Bake uncovered for 15 minutes, or until the biscuit crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.

10. Brush with butter:
Stir the seasoning packet into the melted butter and brush it generously over the baked biscuit topping. Serve warm and enjoy!

  • To prepare the biscuit topping, stir the mix with the cheese and the milk or water.

  • Mix the seasoning packet with the melted butter and brush on the top while still hot.

Notes:
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for beef.
  • Use cream of chicken, celery, or potato soup if preferred.
  • Water can replace milk in the biscuit mix.
  • Any shredded cheese will work!
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave. You can make the meat mixture and freeze it for up to 3 months. When you are ready to make it, let it thaw to room temperature, then bake as directed with the biscuit crust.

Haven’t tried recipe, yet, but I had to replay your pronunciation of Worcestershire sauce over and over again. It’s even funnier than when the Three Stooges do it. Can’t wait to make the recipe.

    1. Lol. It’s just a funny thing someone started on TikTok a few years ago and it caught on and a lot of people say it now. It is more fun than the correct pronunciation for sure though 🙂

This was so so so so good. Even my picky 3 and 5 year old asked for more. The biscuit on top was 🤌🏻 chefs kiss! This is now in my biweekly dinner routine. Thanks so much, I wouldn’t change a thing.

This turned out way better than I expected. I didn’t have an onion, so I used minced dried onion as well as water for the biscuit mix. This will definitely be on our monthly dinner rotation. Thank you!
