Dirty Cajun Rice

If you haven’t noticed yet, I am all about one-pot meals! I mean, who likes having a lot of dishes to do? Not this girl. Anyway, this one-pot dirty cajun rice is so full of flavor, and it comes together in just around 30 minutes. The way I make it is a bit spicy but that can easily be fixed just by leaving out a few things. I feel like the pictures just really do the talking for this recipe so let’s just get into it!

Is your mouth watering yet?

The first thing you will do is brown 1.5 lbs of ground beef in a large, deep skillet. Once it is fully cooked, drain it, or don’t if you prefer not to, and set it aside.

This is the sausage I like to use, but any cooked sausage will do!

You will slice up that sausage and cook it until it’s nice and caramelized. I literally could just eat this by itself, but I somehow manage to resist! Once it is cooked you will remove it and set it aside as well.

Now add about 3 tbs of avocado oil to the pan. Any oil will work, i just prefer avocado oil.

Add one diced yellow onion.

Add one diced green bell pepper.

And if you like it spicy, add one diced jalapeno.

These are all of the seasonings I use. And if you don’t like it spicy, don’t use the slap ya mama. There are plenty of mild cajun seasonings you could use. There is a mild blend of slap ya mama as a matter of fact!

Once you have your veggies seasoned, you want to cook them for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

Add in 7 minced garlic cloves, stir and cook for about 2 more minutes. Your house is going to be smelling so good at this point! Mmmmm

Now it’s time to add the meat back in and give it a good stir.

Add in 3 3/4 cup of water or any flavored broth.

Now time to add in this family size box of Zatarain’s Dirty Rice mix.

Pour it in there and stir it up really well. Let it come to a boil. Put the lid on, reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes. Remove the lid, let sit for about 5 minutes and fluff with a fork. Now it’s time to eat!

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1 13oz package of cooked smoked sausage (any flavor you prefer)
  • 1 yellow onion – diced
  • 1 green bell pepper – diced
  • 7 garlic cloves – minced
  • 3-4 tbs avocado oil
  • Seasonings – I used Flavorgod Garlic Lovers blend, onion powder, Kinder’s red garlic blend, and Slap ya Mama, the hot blend
  • 1 family size box of Zatarain’s Dirty Rice mix
  • 3 3/4 cup water or any flavor of broth (chicken, beef, garlic, etc)

In a large skillet, brown 1.5 lbs of ground beef. Once it is fully cooked, drain the grease and set aside. In the same skillet, brown a 13 oz package of sliced smoked sausage. Once it is nice and caramelized, remove it from the pan and set it aside. Add 3-4 tbs of avocado oil to the pan, then add the diced onion, the diced bell pepper and the diced jalapeno (optional). Season with the seasonings listed or use whatever seasonings you like. Let those cook down for about five minutes, then add about 6-7 minced garlic cloves and let cook for another 2 minutes. Add the meat in and give it a quick stir. Add 3 3/4 cup of water or broth and the Zatarain’s Dirty Rice mix. Stir it up really well. Bring it to a boil, put the lid on, reduce heat and let simmer for about 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked. Remove the lid, let sit for about 5 minutes then give it another good stir. Serve it up and enjoy!
