What are Dumplings?
Depending on where you are from, dumplings may have a completely different meaning to you than someone else. Flat dumplings, like the ones I am making here, typically can be found in the southern region of the states. They are made by rolling out your dough and cutting them into small pieces before dropping them in the dish and result in a dense and chewy texture. Drop dumplings, or fluffy dumplings, are dropped by spoonfuls into the dish, and they result in a light, fluffy and airy texture. The similarities are that they are both made from simple ingredients like flour, water, eggs and milk. The main difference is the texture. I like both! If you want to try the drop dumplings, here is my recipe for Cheddar Bay Biscuit Chicken and Dumplings.

Ingredients:
- 1 lb boneless skinless chicken
- 1 can cream of celery soup
- 1 can cream of chicken with herbs
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 ribs of celery, diced
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 package (8 count) Pillsbury Grand Southern Homestyle biscuits
- Seasonings: Kinder’s buttery poultry blend, Dash salt-free garlic and herb seasoning, black pepper
- Optional: Dried parsley for garnish
Directions:

Place the chicken in the bottom of the crockpot then season generously with Kinder’s buttery poultry blend, Dash salt-free garlic and herb seasoning, and black pepper. If you cannot find these seasonings, you can just use garlic powder, onion powder and paprika, or any kind of seasoning you like for chicken. Just be sure to not use a lot of salt!

Next, pour in the cream of celery and cream of chicken soups. Add the diced onion, carrots, and celery, mixing gently to combine. Then add 4 cups of low-sodium chicken broth to the crockpot and stir everything together. Cover the crockpot and cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 4-6.

Once the chicken is cooked through, remove it from the crockpot. Shred or chop the chicken as desired, then return it to the pot.
I love this shredder. I found it here on Amazon and it is so easy to use!

For the Dumplings

Next, on a lightly floured surface, roll out each biscuit from the package and cut them into nine pieces. Gently stir them into the crockpot, ensuring they’re covered by the broth. Cook on high for an additional 1.5 hours, or until the dumplings are cooked through.

Cooking times will vary with all appliances. But it is important to cook the biscuits on high and to not open the lid while cooking. I always check them at the one-hour mark. But they usually take at least 1.5 hours. They should be fluffy and chewy, but not doughy. Gently separate them with a spoon and give them a gentle stir. Season to taste if needed.

This is a hearty enough meal all on its own, so I do not usually serve it with anything else. But a nice dinner salad would be great as a side dish!

These Easy Chicken and Dumplings in the Crockpot are a delightful way to bring comfort to your dining table. With its rich flavors, tender chicken, and tender dumplings, it’s sure to become a favorite in your household. Give it a try, and enjoy the warmth and satisfaction that comes from a homemade meal!

Yes it will!
Have you tried this with the red lobster cheddar bay biscuit mix yet? If so, do I do it the same way as I would can biscuits?
Sorry, I’m not able to give you a good answer right now because I haven’t tested it enough. My apologies for any trouble this causes.
