Texas Roadhouse Style Green Beans

Texas Roadhouse Style Green Beans

I am not a big fan of chain restaurants. The one exception to that is Texas Roadhouse! In fact, on the rare occasion that my husband and I do go out to eat, we either pick an off-the-beaten-path place that we have never been to. Or we most likely end up at Texas Roadhouse! I am a sucker for the rolls. And the salads, and the steaks, and these GREEN BEANS!!! They are so good!!! They remind me of the ones my grandparents used to make and I will order them almost every time we go there. The smoky flavor from the bacon mixed with just a hint of sweetness from the brown sugar is perfection! They are the perfect side dish for a juicy steak or bbq ribs or chicken fried steak. They quite literally melt in your mouth and the recipe that I have come up with is darn near identical to what they serve!

So if you’re a fan like I am keep reading!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do you have to use canned green beans?

The answer here is no, you absolutely do not! Feel free to use fresh or frozen! But Texas Roadhouse does use canned green beans so to get them to taste as closely to theirs, canned is best.

Do you have to use brown sugar?

Again, no. All recipes are a guide, and are meant to be altered to your own liking. But I promise you, the amount of brown sugar is not enough to make them taste overly sweet. It is very subtle, but does make a difference! And in the south, you probably won’t find a green bean recipe without it!

How to Make Texas Roadhouse Style Green Beans

Texas Roadhouse Style Green Beans

To start, you will brown 8 slices of chopped up bacon in a skillet over medium heat. Once the bacon is crispy, remove it from the pan with a slotted spoon and set aside.

It is completely up to you how much of that bacon grease you want to keep. I kept all of it. This dish is meant to be shared between at least 8-10 people. It is also something that is considered a treat and not something we would eat every day. But if you are calorie conscious or watching your cholesterol, then it might be a good idea to drain about half of it!

Anyways, next you will add in a diced onion and cook it until it is translucent, about 5 minutes.

One thing that can be very frustrating as a blogger/vlogger is forgetting to push the record button. Which is what happened here. But I added 4 cans of drained green beans, 4 minced garlic cloves and a heaping tablespoon of brown sugar. You will then give that a good mix and add in 1/2 cup of chicken broth and the bacon from earlier. Stir it up really well and let it simmer on low until most of the liquid is reduced. And that is all there is to it! These are some of the best green beans you will ever have and you would never know they came out of a can!

If you do make this recipe, please leave a comment and a rating! I love hearing from you and it helps so much! Thank you!

The recipe rating is for the recipe not for Roadhouse’s final product. My wife makes this dish probably 3 times a month. We recently had a gift card to use so we made a trip to the Roadhouse. She ordered her favorite beans as a side, and couldn’t believe it when she got mushy canned beans that were doctored up. She always uses frozen or fresh beans. Why would anyone go to all this trouble and put in canned beans? My grandmother always said “Monday thru Friday canned beans are ok, buy Sunday dinner and special occasions you need the real thing. Canned beans ALWAYS taste like canned beans”, and i feel for people that were raised not knowing the difference.
