What Ingredients are needed to make Taco Boats?

taco boat ingredients
  • 2 lbs of ground beef (ground chicken, turkey or sausage will work too)
  • 15 oz can of black beans
  • 10 oz can of Rotel
  • (2) 8 count packages of Soft Tortilla Bowls
  • 2 oz of taco seasoning (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 diced onion (optional)
  • 8 oz each of grated sharp cheddar and pepper jack cheese
  • Any traditional taco toppings that you would like to add

How to Make Taco Boats

Start by browning the ground beef with the onion. I like to use a potato masher to get the meat really fine and crumbly! A little trick I learned from my aunt a long time ago! Once cooked, drain the grease. This is optional. I just prefer to but I know some people don’t.

Another trick I learned long ago is to line a bowl with aluminum foil to and put a strainer over it to drain the grease. When the grease hardens, simply pull it out of the bowl and throw it away!

Now you will add the taco seasoning along with a cup of water. Give that a good mix. Then add in the rotel and the beans. Be sure to rinse and drain the beans!

As I was making these, I realized that this would make a great dip! So, if you need a good taco dip, stop here. Adding some cheese in would be good too! Just an idea!

Line a large cookie sheet with aluminum foil then place the taco boats on it. Fill with the meat and cheese. Then bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly!

We go through a lot of cheese in this house and I always buy it by the block. It is cheaper and tastes better and it melts better. I bought this cheese grater a little over a year ago on Amazon and it has been a life changer! I recommend you check it out!
