Why You Will Love This Recipe:

French dip sliders are incredibly versatile and can be served at any occasion. Whether you’re hosting a game day gathering, a casual get-together, or simply want to whip up something delicious for your family, these sliders are the answer. Plus, the combination of tender roast beef dipped in rich au jus and the crunchy texture of fried onions creates a delectable experience in every bite.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (12-count) package of King’s Hawaiian savory butter rolls
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter (for spreading)
  • 1 (1 oz) package of au jus gravy mix
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 lb of sliced rare deli roast beef
  • 6 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3 oz of French crispy fried onions
  • 6 slices of mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of butter (for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder

Instructions:

Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. While the oven is heating, take the package of King’s Hawaiian rolls and carefully cut them in half lengthwise. Next, spread 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter on the bottom halves of the rolls. They should be nicely coated for that perfect toasty finish!

Place the bottom halves of the rolls in the oven-safe baking tray (YES it is oven-safe!) and bake for about 7 minutes, or until they are golden brown and toasty. The aroma of baking butter rolls will have your mouth watering!

While the rolls are toasting, prepare the au jus gravy according to the package instructions.  Place the deli roast beef in the au jus for about 1 minute. Don’t leave it in too long, or you risk toughening the meat. After a minute, carefully remove the beef and set it aside.

Once the rolls come out of the oven, layer them with 6 slices of sharp cheddar cheese. Next, top the cheese with the warm roast beef, followed by 3 oz of crispy fried onions for that irresistible crunch. Finally, add a layer of 6 slices of mozzarella cheese on top.

Place the top buns onto the assembled sliders. In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of melted butter with 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder and onion powder. Brush this flavorful mixture over the top of the rolls.

Return the sliders to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 7 minutes or until the cheese is melted, and the buns are toasty golden brown. Once out of the oven, slice the sliders into individual portions. Serve them warm with a side of creamy horseradish sauce for a zesty kick. Don’t forget to serve the extra au jus for dipping – it’s the perfect complement!

I had a pound of “shaved steak” sitting in the freezer since the sale that made me buy it last summer, so I had the extra steps of seasoning and searing the beef. And it was still a recipe I’d consider “easy and fun”!

In addition to the herbed butter brushed onto the bun tops for the final bake, I also sprinkled some TJ’s Everything But the Bagel seasoning on half the sliders. I think next time I’ll sprinkle that stuff on the whole shebang! It was a pleasant addition

As you say, this would be great party food, but we’re looking forward to the leftovers on our “at home” nights this holiday season

Thank you for your creative and clear recipes, Carman!
