2tbspSalted Butter
1/4CupAll Purpose Flour
2CupsHalf and Half
1/2tspSlap Ya Mama Cajun Seasoningoptional
1tspRed Pepper Flakes
8Count Pillsbury Grands Southern Homestyle Biscuitsor any brand that you like
6Large Eggs
1/4tspSlap Ya Mama or salt to season the eggs
1/8CupMilk
1.5CupsShredded Cheddar Cheese
1.5CupsShredded Pepper Jack Cheese
Instructions
Brown sausage over medium heat. Remove half and set aside.
Add butter to remaining sausage, then stir in the flour and cook 3 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.
Slowly whisk in half-and-half until thick and smooth. Season with the Slap Ya Mama, black pepper and red pepper flakes. (If you don't want to use the Slap Ya Mama, use salt instead)
Cut biscuits into nine pieces each.
Whisk eggs, milk, and seasoning together.
Layer biscuits, reserved sausage, and 2 cups cheese in a greased 9×13 dish.
Pour egg mixture over top, then spoon gravy on and finish with remaining cheese.
Bake uncovered at 350°F for 35–40 minutes until set and cooked through.
This casserole is perfect for prepping the night before.After assembling, make sure the sausage gravy has cooled, then cover the dish tightly and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, let the casserole sit out for about 1 hour before baking. This helps take the chill off the glass baking dish and allows it to bake evenly.Bake as directed — 35–40 minutes is usually perfect, even when made ahead.
